Rooms

Set the footprint, then add rooms

Project name

Overall footprint

The outer edge every room has to fit inside — the basement or floor you're planning. Rooms never go outside it.

Height

Planning an addition? Photograph the wall it goes on: one photo measures the wall, its doors and windows, the roof line and the electrical service.

What's already down there

Beams, posts, stairs and the furnace decide where walls can go. Mark them first, in this order: the beam (it runs the long way, down the middle, under the main floor), the posts under it, the mechanical room (an outside corner, where the furnace vents and the gas comes in), then the stairs — with 3′ of open floor at the bottom that belongs to the hallway or the rec room. Tap one to add it, then type where it really is.
