Walls, cabinets and ceiling zones

Give every tool, tire, tote and machine a safe home.

Build a storage brief around how the garage is actually used. The planner separates quick-access wall storage, enclosed cabinets, work zones and overhead seasonal storage so door tracks, vehicles and walking paths stay clear.

Step 1

Garage and clearance measurements

These measurements create planning quantities only. Final fasteners, anchoring, loading and overhead mounting require site verification.

Step 2

Select the storage systems

Choose functions, not brands. Final products must be checked for compatibility and rated capacity.

Choose the coating scope

The coating is selected only after slab profile, moisture, cracks, contamination, drainage and intended service are reviewed.

Coating rule: “Epoxy” and “polyaspartic” describe chemistry, not a guaranteed result. Preparation, compatible primer/base/topcoat, repair details, film thickness, temperature, moisture, cure and texture determine performance. Confirm the complete manufacturer's system and written installer scope.

Optional wash bay

Indoor car-wash wall protection

Plan a complete water-management assembly—not just a washable face panel.

Wall and room-finish scope

Assembly rule: Cement board is dimensionally durable around moisture but is not automatically a waterproof barrier. FRP is a washable finish but seams, edges, fasteners, penetrations and the wall-to-floor transition still require a compatible sealed system. Use one manufacturer-supported assembly and preserve any required garage fire separation.

Clearance and mounting checks

Door envelope

Map the open door, tracks, springs, opener rail, emergency release and service space before placing cabinets or racks.

Vehicle envelope

Include doors open, hatch raised, mirrors, roof accessories, charging cable and a safe walking path.

Structure and loads

Identify framing and substrate. Never assume drywall, slatwall or ceiling finish alone can carry a storage load.

Utilities and fire separation

Locate wiring, plumbing, gas, ventilation, detectors and required fire separations before drilling or altering finishes.

Chemicals and batteries

Follow product labels for ventilation, temperature, ignition separation and incompatible materials. Keep hazards away from children.

Access and ergonomics

Daily items belong between knee and shoulder height; heavy items stay low; seasonal lightweight items may go overhead after approval.

Planning boundary: Capacity depends on the complete installed assembly—structure, anchors, panel, accessory and workmanship. Use the lowest rated component and obtain site review for overhead or high-load storage.
